In accordance with the official reply from Henan Education Bureau and Henan Reform and Development Commission about the application of our university to build a new campus as well as site-selection evaluations of relevant experts, our university acquired a land of 1,373.067 Mu in Zhengzhou Hi-tech Development Park and started to build the new campus in early 2002. Later on, Ministry of Education permitted to establish Henan University of Technology by merging Zhengzhou University Of Technology and Zhengzhou Industrial College. After the merging, the new university has two new campuses, namely, Lianhua Street Campus (new campus of former Zhengzhou Engineering college) and Wutong Street Campus (new campus of former Zhengzhou Industrial College). Under the supports and cares of the Party Committee and Government of our province, our university signed a “Land Exchange Agreement” with the Administration of Zhengzhou Hi-tech Development Park on Dec. 31, 2005 to relocate Wutong Street Campus to Lianhua Street Campus through land exchange. After the land exchange and adjustment, total area of the new campus of our university is 215,4 Mu. According to the plan, the new campus will have a construction area of 790,000 m2 and 28,000 students will live and study there.
Located in the Western University City in Zhengzhou Hi-tech Development Park, the new campus is surrounded by Lianhua Street in the south, Lianhuo Expressway in the north, Changchun Road in the west, Xuesong Road in the east, Zhengzhou University in the southwest and Information Engineering University of PLA in the southeast. The new campus enjoys good geographic location, convenient transport and beautiful environment. The project of the new campus is a key construction project of Henan Province.
With supports from provincial and municipal governments and relevant organs, our university has smoothly completed works for bidding invitation for the overall design of the new campus, awarding the contract to Institute of Architectural Design of South China University of Technology. Afterwards, the university completed bidding invitation works regarding designs and planning of supporting infrastructure, buildings in central teaching zone and individual sub-projects in students living zone, laying a solid foundation for the beginning of the overall construction. In order to guarantee smooth completion of the construction of the new campus, the Party Committee of our university set up the HQ of the project and relevant construction organizations at the beginning of 2003 and upgraded relevant rules and regulations. On Jan. 24, 2003, the corner-stone laying ceremony was held, marking the beginning of preparations for the construction of the new campus.
With a planned construction area of 270,000 m2, phase-1 project of the new campus, which was started in Sept. 2003, has 31 individual sub-projects, including central public teaching group, science and engineering group 1, science and engineering group 2, students’ apartments, students’ dinning halls and university hospital. Currently, sub-projects of phase-1 project in Lianhua Street Campus have been almost completed, and supporting infrastructure works have been finished too. The digital campus project (including campus network, campus radio, universal card, cable TV and systems of communication, security and fire-fighting), which was launched together with phase-1 project, has been put into use and achieved expected achievements.
The university made the construction plan for the phase-2 project of the new campus, which has a planned construction area of 330,000 m2, in order to intensify efforts to obtain rights of doctor-degree conferment and to upgrade school-running functions of the new campus. Main sub-projects of this stage include the library, internship factory, sports training center and students’ apartments. Completed works in phase-2 include 12 students’ apartments, sports training center, No. 2 ground track field and outdoor courts. Works that are still under construction include the library, engineering training center, etc. Planned works are administrative office building, art building, arts group, students’ activity center, 12 students’ apartments, building of school of oil and grain, building of school of material and electronic sciences, building of school of civil construction, engineering research center of department of oil and grain storage and safety education, engineering center of super rigid grinding materials and tools as well as experiment center of civil structures.
As the construction of the new campus goes on, environmental works in the new campus have been carried out too. In the recent years, belt of protection trees in the north, central ecological lake as well as nurseries in empty lands have been constructed. In order to improve the landscape, it is planned to set up a number of ornamental stones, sculptures, pavilions, leisure stools, art walls, frescos, publicity walls, newspaper windows, ornamental trees and school fellow forests in places in or around the school gate, central square, ecological garden and teaching buildings. These facilities are human-friendly, practical and meaningful.
Currently, Party and administrative organs and 11 schools and departments of the university have moved into the new campus, and 15,000 students are living and studying there. The successful completion and actual use of the new campus, which is a key construction project of our province, will lay a solid foundation for the leap-forward development of our university and open a new chapter for the university. |
